Problem Note 52696: SAS® Deployment Backup and Recovery tool reports "Error message: Could not archive backup" and fails to back up the SAS® Content Server

DetailsAboutRate It

When you run an ad hoc (unscheduled) backup, or when a regularly scheduled backup runs, the SAS Deployment Backup and Recovery tool might send an email or return command-line output with the following error:

   Operation Status : FAIL
Error message: Could not archive backup.

The problem occurs if the central vault location is not defined in SAS® 9.4M1 and the SAS Content Server is cluster-enabled. This is because the SAS Deployment Backup and Recovery tool requires a central vault location to back up the SAS Content Server in SAS 9.4M1 when it is cluster-enabled, even if a central vault location is not defined during deployment using the SAS® Deployment Wizard.

By default during deployment, a central vault location is not defined and the SAS Content Server is cluster-enabled. Accepting the SAS Deployment Wizard defaults would result in this error message.

To resolve the issue, specify a central vault location. For instructions, see the section "Specifying or Changing a Central Vault Location" in Chapter 29 of the SAS® 9.4 Intelligence Platform System Administration Guide.
